Competence Management Certification verifies a company's ability to identify, define, develop and improve the competence of seafarers and those supporting them ashore in accordance with:

  • Mandatory requirements
  • Customers' needs and expectations
  • Customers' own defined business goals

The rewards of an effective competence management system are safer and more efficient operations and competitive advantage.

The service is based on the DNV Standard for Certification No. 3.101 Competence Management Systems in an ISM/STCW environment which objective is to continually develop competence of seafarers and those supporting them ashore. DNV SeaSkill™ Competence Wheel is a core principle of
the standard and assists shipping companies to establish a CMS which can be certified upon implementation.

The competence management system may be an integral part of an established management system (e.g. ISO, ISM). It is a voluntary certification scheme beyond the ISM Code. The Company's ISM certification continues to be valid regardless of certification in accordance with this standard.
