Systematic evaluation of the noise and vibration levels on board all types of ships
In order to meet today’s criteria regarding noise and vibration on all types of ships, advisory services may be provided to owners, designers and building yards. To ensure favourable environmental conditions on board, the ship-owner may include noise and vibration limits as design objectives in the ship’s building specification. The noise and vibration criteria included in the DNV Comfort Class and Vibration Class provide guidance in this respect.
DNV has leading-edge competence and tools for providing advice on how to combat noise and vibrations. Our consultants have been working on noise and vibration problems since 1960 and more than 3,000 noise and vibration projects have been carried out for a variety of clients. Noise and vibrations are factors that affect both the safety and operability of vessels.
The services are available to the maritime and offshore industries and include:
Different types of measurements may be carried out during the sea trial or after the ship is put into operation. For example:
Troubleshooting
Hydroacoustic predictions and measurements of the noise radiated from the hull and propellers are carried out for seismic, fishing, research and military vessels.
